Chris Brown community service police chief resigns

The police chief who signed off on Chris Brown's community service has resigned.

The singer was sentenced to 180 days' community service and five years' probation after pleading guilty to assaulting his on-off partner Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards.

Chief of the police department in Richmond, Virginia Bryan Norwood played a key role in taking over Brown's case from the Richmond Probation Department, TMZ reports.

He is also said to have written a letter to the court confirming that Brown had fulfilled his community service obligations.

It was claimed earlier this month that Brown had violated his probation by failing to complete the 202 ! hours of service that had been signed off.

The LA District Attorney has apparently filed paperwork requesting that a portion of Brown's community service dates at the Tappahannock Children's Centre be thrown out as a result of "at best sloppy... and at worst fraudulent reporting".

Chief Norwood and the mayor of Richmond have reached a "mutual agreement" for his resignation.

While it is believed that the officer will move to a similar position in Raleigh, North Carolina, the gossip website claims that the "buzz in Richmond" may have sped up this decision.
