Could Chris Brown and Rihanna perform together on 'American Idol'?

After a rocky and tumultuous relationship and a very public breakup that was initiated by a domestic violence incident, Chris Brown and Rihanna have recently reconciled and have each made appearances on each other's new singles. The reunion has earned the two a lot of negative attention and many are saying that rekindling their relationship is not only a bad example for young fans who look up to both of them, but unhealthy.

Now, in addition to their music collaborations, Brown and Rihanna are in talks with American Idol producers to appear together on the show some time this season. E! Online reported that the Idol producers plan on having the two sing a duet together.

"They want Chris and Rihanna to reunite on the show," said a source close to the show.

If Brown and Rihanna agree and the deal goes through, it would be the first time since their breakup that the two will appear together in public and their first collaboration since 2009. Although lots of rumors are currently flying around, Rihanna's publicist says they are untrue as of now.

Although Brown has been tweeting lately about "LOVE and POSITIVITY," the singer is in hot water once again for allegedly stealing a fan's cell phone during a performance and violating his probation.

Whether this is some sort of publicity stunt by the Idol producers or it's just a way to try and get the two stars on the show, it's bound to get people talking. Whether it will get people watching is another question all together. Brown, who recently won a Grammy Award, received harsh criticism for his appearance on the show, as did the Grammy producers for allowing Brown to perform during the ceremony.

Because Idol is a family show, there! are man y things to consider before the performance is set in stone. For one, does Idol want to risk a viewing protest from angry fans who disagree with Brown's behavior? And do they want to throw their support behind Brown and Rihanna despite what has happened in their relationship and if so, how will they deal with those issues on the air? Time will tell.
