Chris Brown ordered to remain on probation

Though Chris Brown has undergone a positive change in his career since his 2009 arrest for assault on then girlfriend Rihanna, a judge ordered on February 9 that the singer should remain on probation, according to the Associated Press.

Brown did not appear at the hearing but his attorney asked that his probation term be ended due to good behavior. The singer is currently serving five years of probation for the attack. Brown was originally sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service and was ordered by the courts to receive domestic violence courses for a year.

In December 2010, Brown Tweeted a photo of a diploma from a domestic violence course and said "I'm done with class."

In February 2011, a judge granted his request for a downgraded restraining order that had kept him at least 50 yards from Rihanna except during public events.

The singer's attorney, Mark Geragos, requested the change after Brown's probation officer wrote in a report that the singer has been truthful with officers, passed all required ! drug tes ts and "has made great strides" while under probation supervision, according to the wire service.

He has completed half of the six months' worth of roadside cleanup, graffiti removal and other manual labor that he was ordered to do after pleading guilty to attacking Rihanna.

Superior Court Judge George Lomeli stated that he did not believe it was unreasonable for Brown to remain under supervision until he completes more of his community service hours.

The singer is set to perform at the Grammy Awards on February 12 and his multi-hit album, "F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies) is nominated for three Grammys, including best R&B album. His song "Look at Me Now," featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, is up for best rap song and best rap performance.

Brown will be joined on stage by deadmau5, Foo Fighters, David Guetta and Lil Wayne.

The judge scheduled another progress hearing for July 10.
