Rihanna kisses Chris Brown at MTV VMAs (Video)

Rihanna greeted former boyfriend Chris Brown with a hug and kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6.

The pair has not appeared in public together since Brown assaulted Rihanna after a pre-Grammy Awards party in 2009. Their moment was captured on camera at the annual Awards show - the 24-year-old singer rushed over to Brown, kissed and hugged him and as she was leaving, patted his head.

Photos and video of t! he interaction made its way to the internet, reigniting a discussion amongst fans as to whether Rihanna should have let her abuser back into her life and whether Brown should be forgiven.

Rihanna recently opened up to Oprah Winfrey about her relationship with Brown, telling the media mogul, "We've been working on our friendship again and now we're very, very close friends... We've built a trust again and that's it. We love each other and we probably always will and that's not something we're going to try to change."

Rihanna told Winfrey that the two met up recently in St. Tropez on a mutual friend's yacht and though Brown is in a relationship now, her "stomach drops" when she sees Brown, who she calls the "love of my life."

Following the assault arrest, Brown pleaded guilty to a felony charge was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service and was ordered by the courts to receive domestic violence courses for a year.

After the confrontation, Rihanna obtained a restraining order against Brown. In February 2011, it was dropped to a lower level.

At the Video Music Awards, Rihanna took home the award for Video of the Year for "We Found Love." Brown won two awards - Best Male Video and Best Choreography for "Turn Up the Music." See a full list of winners.
