Rihanna On Chris Brown: 'I Wanted Someone Shocking And Dirty'
Rihanna has claimed that she decided to duet with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown on the remix for her track 'Birthday Cake' because she wanted it to be believable and dirty.
Fans were shocked when the star released the remixed version which featured Brown singing some pretty explicit lyrics. At the time the couple were rumoured to be hooking up out of the studio as well, reuniting after three years apart.
They initially dated in 2008 but broke up in February 2009 when the 'Yeah x3' star assaulted his then girlfriend following a pre-Grammy party for which he was convicted of assault. I thought it would be cute to do it with a guy.
I wondered, who can be dirty, someone who people will really believe? she told Harper's Bazaar adding that she wanted the guy to be shocking.
It certainly was shocking as many feared it confirmed that the couple were set to get back together, but the 24 year-old claims it couldn't have been further from her mind.
I understand that people had every right to be concerned about it,
But I didnt see it that way because Im in a different place, she said at the backlash to her reunion with Brown.
The star insists that she wasn't using the duet to try and rekindle her romance with the RnB star who is currently dating Vietnamese model Karrueche Tran.
Since the record, which reached number two in the US the couple have been plagued by rumours that they were back together.
But Rihanna also admitted in the interview that following the assault she is cautious when it comes to love and doesn't know if she can love anyone as hard as she loved Chris, let alone reunite with the star.
