Chris Brown target of hoax 911 call, no emergency found

Chris Brown appears to be the latest victim of another celebrity "swatting" prank.

Police were called to the "Don't Wake Me Up" singer's home around 5 p.m. on Monday to investigate a domestic violence situation. Upon arriving to his residence, officers met with members of Brown's staff and determined there was no emergency, police told KABC Television, OTRC.com's parent company.

Brown was not home at the time of the incident, and the case is being investigated as a false emergency report.

Such false calls are often called "swatting" because it could spur the dispatching of a SWAT team. It is a misdemeanor offense, although if anyone is injured as a result of the call, it would be classified as a felony.

Earlier this month, Tom Cruise's home received a visit from Beverly Hills cops after someone reported an armed robbery, but it appeared to have been a false alarm. Cruise was not home at the time.

In October 2012, Ashton Kutcher was the victim of a house invader hoax after someone called the Los Angeles Police Department through teletype, a non-traceable online phone service used by the deaf, claiming to be a woman who was hiding in the closet because there was a man with a gun inside the home.

A week later, authorities received a teletype message about a gunman who allegedly fired shots near Bieber's home and threatened to harm police when they arrived. Officers again found nothing suspicious on the scene. Bieber was also away at the time.

Following the investigation, the Los Angeles-area police along with the FBI arrested a "juvenile" suspected of committing the Kutcher and Bieber "swatting" pranks.

In August 2012, Miley Cyrus was one of the first in a string of celebrities to become the target of celebrity "swatti! ng." ! A call was made which led to cop cars to rush to the singer's Los Angeles home after a reported home invasion and kidnapping.

Just last week, several police officers rushed to the Los Angeles area neighborhood of Hidden Hills, home of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" stars Kris and Bruce Jenner, Kardashian's mother and stepfather, who live with daughters Kendall and Kylie.

Authorities told KABC Television that a caller who had reported a possible assault and had provided a different address that was not the Kardashian's residence. The Associated Press said it was the family's former Malibu home. Upon arriving to the Kardashian house in Hidden Hills, authorities confirmed that there was no emergency. However, they did not refer to it as a "swatting" incident.
