Brown's hat trick lifts Oswego State icemen over Brockport

BROCKPORT Chris Brown recorded his first hat trick as the second-ranked Oswego State mens hockey team held off a late surge from Brockport in a 6-4 win Saturday at Tuttle North Ice Arena.

Browns third goal gave the Lakers (9-0-2 SUNY Athletic Conference, 16-2-2 overall) a 6-2 lead midway through the period, but the Golden Eagles netted two goals in the final five minutes of the game.

Brockport (3-8-1 SUNYAC, 7-12-2 overall) took a 2-0 lead in the first period after goals by James Cody and Sean Wallace, but Brown tallied his first goal of the game at the 15:28 from David Titanic to make it 2-1.

The Lakers leveled the score at 7:36 in the second period when Chris Muise lit the lamp for the fourth time this season with an unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later, Ian Boots scored on a power play to give Oswego State its first lead of the game with Tyler Leimbrock and Muise earning assists. The advantage doubled two minutes after Boots goal when Brown netted his second of the game.

Muise tallied his third point of the game when he fed Leimbrock 52 seconds into the third period to keep the Oswego State offense rolling. When the Lakers committed a boarding penalty at 8:36, the Brockport coaching staff called timeout and pulled goaltender Oliver Wren for the extra skater in a 6-on-4 situation, as the Eagles faced a three-goal deficit.

Brown made Brockport pay as he completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal at the 9:50 mark to make the score 6-2.

Brockports Chris Cangro and Cody scored three minutes apart with two minutes to play, but Oswego State held on for the win.

Laker goaltender Andrew Hare stopped 25 shots to improve to 13-2-2 on the season.

Wren recorded 24 saves for the Eagles.

Oswego State, which finished 1-for-2 on the power play, travels to Morrisville on Saturday for a 7 p.m. game.
